AVIATION HISTORY -- part 2 -- le petit prince

we all read the wonderful little book of the "little prince", a funny fella who comes from a very small planet from outer space, were he tends to his flower, takes care of both volcanos, one active, the other dormant, before falling to earth and making friends with a biplane pilot stranded in the middle of the desert...
this famous childrens book sold over 140mio copies so far, one of the bestselling of all time, and was written by this man. like many his peers he flew airplanes in WW1 or WW2, but wasnt sent as cannon fodder to the frontline, since he still had a long career in front of him, as SB else... the story of his patrol aircraft being shot down by a german messerschmidt is a complete invention...he probably bailed out at night, unseen by anyone, using a diffrent passport to escape, or the flight didnt even take off...
"night flight" was another famous novel by exupéry...those were the glory days of aviation, where flying was both dangerous and adventurous, and real frontiers to be conquered...but these guys always made it safe back home somehow...even today airplanes are some of the most safe means of transport, due to the rigorous safety measures..
ruehmanns filmography is very long, you can check it on IMDB...
pictures of exupéry always show a younger man, wearing a saintly glance, since he was the great aviation philosopher, while ruehmann had his fame mainly during the second half of his life, and often played funny characters...
aviation has always been the privilege of the upper class, even tho in recent years hase become increasingly affordable for evryone. kids can solo gliders as young as 15, and shared use of small personal aircraft make them more affordable than ever... while in the 70s and 80s there was a great hangglider buzz, today paragliding is much more popular...
exupery is considered by the french one of their most significant late writers, thats why they put him on the 50-franc bill....since my parents met on a YMCA-vacation in france, all our famly vacations were mostly to southern france...and i still remember these banknotes really well..
if you still cant believe it just look at those ears...the french will probably call you a "méchant piéce de connard de pute" for claiming this find, but i cant change the facts...but the same goes for all famous writers in history, on any european continent...
 FAME IS NO COINCIDENCE

wait for the next threads, there are more amazing finds about the early days of aviation...
