Karl May and Mark Twain are the same guy. both were in their respective cultures (Germany/America) the most prolific writers for "wild west" fiction...for the younger audience , but also adults and retired folks...one of my uncles has the complete karl may collection on his shelf...when i was a teen i read a whole dozen of em...but also my father, grandad and probly grand-grandad as well, they all know these books in and out....
Karl May & Mark Twain have been translated into many languages and sold millions if not billions of copies...every child knows Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn. high grossing popular fiction and youth literature is produced by a special circle of people...(remember agatha christie and Enid Blyton)
in germany there are several annual festivals (karl-may-festspiele) where they perform adapted stageplays at open-air locations (bad segeberg and bregenz)...
the winnetou-books were turned into movies in the 60s, with lex barker & pierre brice playing winnetou and old shatterhand...lex barker "dieing" at age 50 is the usual whopper...both actors of course must have alters...there are no actors or directors of high profile that dont have them...
